Candle etiquette
Lighting
Placement
Place your candle on a stable, heat-resistant surface such as a coaster to avoid heat damage.
Trimming
Trim the wick to approximately 8 mm if need be, for optimum flame size and prevent smoking.
Lighting
Light your candle and relax in its hypnotic glow and irresistible fragrance.
If smoke appears
Extinguish the flame using the lid and allow to cool before trimming and relighting.
Maker's tip
Fragrance is preserved best by limiting burn-time to four hours. If you can bear to.
Extinguishing
Before extinguishing
Allow the wax surface to melt fully to avoid a tunnelling effect around the wick. If this happens simply remove the wax wall before relighting.
Extinguishing
Place the lid directly on your lit candle. You can also use a snuffer or wick dipper to preserve the fragrance and shape of your candle. We don’t recommend blowing on your candle to extinguish the flame.
Maker's tip
The lid protects your candle from dust and debris however removing it does release exceptional fragrance even when it’s cold.
After the burn
Reposition the wick
Reposition the wick to its origin, if required, before the wax solidifies. Leave 5mm of wax at the bottom to prevent contact between flame and glass.
Storage
Store in a cool, dry place away from sunlight. Coconut wax is softer than other waxes, with a low melting point. If liquification occurs, simply relocate it to a cooler area.
Repurpose
Repurpose your elegant Karmal glass vessel with a tea light or a plant or by making it a special place for special little things. Remove the last of the wax by soaking the glass in hot water, then ease out the wax and wick bases.
